Within the City of Los Angeles is a neighborhood named Reseda. Reseda is home to about 75,000 residents. Forty three percent of the population is foreign born, with Mexico and El Salvador being the two countries most of the foreign born residents migrated from. The neighborhood of Reseda is bordered by Northridge, Lake Balboa, Encino, Tarzana and Winnetka. Reseda has had a pretty interesting and long history when it comes to motion pictures. In 1984’s The Karate Kid, the main character named Daniel moves from New Jersey to Reseda. In 1991, the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day shows a car chase scene going down the L.A. River. 1995’s A Kid in King Arthur’s Court has not only the main character calling Reseda his hometown but both the beginning and the ending of the film take place in a baseball field in Reseda. Reseda has also been in music and television, the show 10 Seconds or Less actually was filmed in Jons Marketplace which is located within Reseda (though there are other Jons locations throughout Los Angeles County). Also in the show called My Name is Earl, several of the scenes were filmed in Reseda to try and capture a rural small town feel for the show.
There are also parks and recreation locations in Reseda including: the Reseda Parks and Recreation Center, which houses basketball courts, a baseball field, tennis courts, volleyball courts, a pool, barbeque pits and a community room that holds about 200 people. Next to the Reseda Parks and Recreation Center is the Reseda Senior Multipurpose Center which is staffed by volunteers. The youth of Reseda occupy the fifteen public and five private schools.
